Mudras are hand positions or gestures that direct the flow of energy to influence our physical, emotional, and spiritual body. Reprinted from The Chopra Center.
The Gyana Mudra is the first mudra that we will be exploring. This mudra can offer an increase in concentration, creativity, alleviate insomnia, and sharpen your knowledge. During your next meditation or yoga practice, try touching the tip of the thumb to the tip of the index finger and extend remaining three fingers.

The Prithvi mudra increases your bodies strength & overall health. It is particularly useful for a Kapha deficiency. You can practice the Prithvi mudra while traveling, reading, meditating or even watching T.V. – Join the tips of your ring finger with the tip of your thumb & apply gentle pressure.

The Varun mudra because of its subtle nature allows you to clearly and intuitively communicate with those around you, consequently improving your relationships. It also balances your bodies circulation improving skin conditions & enhancing the natural glow and luster to your face.
To practice the Varun mudra, take your pinky finger and thumb tips to lightly touch, and gently extend the remaining three fingers.

The Vayu mudra practiced for 45 minutes can reduce joint pain within 12 to 24 hours. Place your tip of the index finger on the base of thumb and extend remaining fingers.

The Shunya mudra is defined as the mudra of emptiness, and it equalizes and even relieves pressure within 4-5 minutes. Use your thumb to press the middle finger towards your palm while all remaining fingers release outward. Do you experience uncomfortable ear pressure when flying or high elevations? Next time give Shunya mudra a try.

The Surya mudra reduces the earth element & increases the fire element in the body, which is intended to help you stimulate weight loss, alleviate indigestion and reduce anxiety. Practice it twice a day for 5-15 minutes to ignite healing benefits. Simply bend the ring finger and press it down gently with your thumb while extending the remaining fingers.

The Prana mudra improves the life force within you. By practicing this mudra you will feel energized as it promotes physical activity in addition to improving your immunity. Practice by bending your ring finger & pinky, touching the tip of your thumb keeping the remaining two fingers stretched outward.

The Apana is the mudra of digestion and plays a major role in our health as it regulates the rapid removal of systemic waste. With the right hand, touch the tip of the thumb to the tips of the middle and ring finger. Extend the index and little fingers.

The Apana Vayu mudra is known to help in healing and in keeping the heart healthy. Heart patients are recommended to practice the Apana Vayu Mudra twice for 15 minutes daily. To perform the Apana Vayu Mudra, take the tips of the middle finger and ring finger and touch the tip of the thumb, while the index finger touches the base of the thumb, and the little finger is stretched out.

The Linga mudra increases body heat by focusing on the element of fire inside the body helping to boost your immune system making your body more resistant to colds and related infections. Practice by interlocking the fingers of both hands & keeping the thumb of the left hand vertically straight and encircling it with the thumb and the index finger of the right hand.
